In a true emergency, you should always call 911. However, if you’re experiencing pain or discomfort due to a broken appliance, please call us as soon as possible and we will find a time to fit you in. We schedule according to the procedure, which is why we appreciate advance notice so that enough time is allowed to replace any broken appliances. Usually, a loose bracket will not cause discomfort. If you ever have any questions or problems please feel free to contact us anytime.
If for some reason a bracket or band comes loose, please be sure to notify our office immediately. In some cases it may be necessary to change your next appointment; so advance notice is greatly appreciated. Also, if a bracket comes off and we are not notified, do not assume that we will replace it at the next appointment.
Keep band or bracer clean; call the office to schedule a re-cementation appointment. Be sure to save any part that comes completely loose.
Try to replace the wire in the bracket or tube with tweezers. If this is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened. Call for an appointment.
Attempt to push the sticker down with the end of a spoon. If this is not possible, cover with wax and call for an appointment.
This is not a real “emergency” but should be expected. Warm salt water held in the mouth can reduce soreness.
Soreness during orthodontic treatment is to be expected. Simple medication such as Tylenol or aspirin may help; warm salt water held in the mouth can reduce soreness. In addition, a bite wager is also helpful.
